Downtown Atlanta Inc., in partnership with Sweet Auburn Works, is seeking qualified transportation planning and engineering firms to develop the Sweet Auburn Pedestrian Safety Action Plan, an implementation-focused plan designed to make walking safer, easier and more accessible throughout the historic Sweet Auburn neighborhood. Building on previous planning efforts, including Reconnecting Sweet Auburn and the Hope-Hill Elementary Safe Routes to School Action Plan, the project will identify and prioritize locations where pedestrian safety improvements are needed, particularly connections to cultural destinations, affordable housing, parks and the King Memorial MARTA station. The selected consultant will assess existing conditions, engage residents and community stakeholders, develop recommendations and concept designs for priority locations, and create an implementation strategy to help move projects toward construction. Community input will play a central role throughout the process, ensuring recommendations reflect the experiences and needs of people who live, work and spend time in Sweet Auburn. The $200,000 project is funded through the Atlanta Regional Commission’s Livable Centers Initiative program, with local matching funds provided by Sweet Auburn Works. Proposals are due October 16, 2026, at 5:00 PM ET, with the completed plan anticipated by October 31, 2027. Downtown Atlanta, Inc. has extended the proposal submission deadline by two weeks. Proposals are now due by 5:00 PM ET on October 30, 2026.
