Back to School Celebration Brings Three Days of Placemaking to Broad Street

Category: Placemaking

The celebration kicked off with Canzera SZN and a photo booth, followed by a variety show on day two and a community market to close out the week. Each day offered something different, but they all shared the same goal: giving people another reason to spend time Downtown.

That idea is at the heart of placemaking.

Put simply, placemaking is about turning the spaces we pass through every day into places where people actually want to be. And sometimes, it doesn't take a major construction project or a brand-new park to do that.

For three afternoons, someone heading to lunch could stop and catch a performance. A Downtown worker could discover a local vendor. Coworkers could step away from their desks, get a little vitamin D and enjoy the city together. People could simply stop, connect and stay awhile.

Those moments may seem small, but they're what help a neighborhood feel alive.

For Downtown Atlanta Inc., that's what placemaking is all about: creating more reasons for people to experience Downtown, connect with one another and feel like they belong here.

Because sometimes placemaking looks like a transformative new public space. Other times, it looks like music, a market, and a reason to spend your lunch break on Broad Street.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped bring the Boardwalk to life.

Class dismissed. 🎓
